This website is devoted to the fascinating life and work of the distinguished potter / pioneer Walter B. Stephen (1876-1961). Stephen traveled west in a covered wagon as a young boy. His childhood experiences included living in a sod home near the Sioux Indians, seeing the last buffalo hunts and meeting Bill Cody.
An innovative and talented artist, Walter B. Stephen is best known for his cameo wares and crystalline glazes. His crystalline glazes were the first achieved in the South and his cameo designs with folk life scenes are truly unique American art pottery.
